A job shadowing experience arranged by NCMC Career Services helped transform Lillian Sabin's career ambitions

When Lillian Sabin began her journey at North Central Michigan College, majoring in business marketing and finance, she didn’t expect that connecting with NCMC Career Services would play such a pivotal role in her future.

With expert guidance from Career Development Specialist Wendy Kresnak, Sabin secured a valuable job shadowing opportunity at Petoskey’s Real Estate One. This immersive experience gave her a firsthand look at the real estate industry, working closely with experienced agents to understand daily operations and client interactions.

One of Sabin’s mentors, seasoned agent Ethan Swiger, shared his extensive 25-year expertise and enthusiasm for the industry. “It was a pleasure sharing my passion for the field — and revealing what goes on behind the scenes — with a motivated student like Lillian,” Swiger said.

Sabin reflected on how this opportunity provided not only career clarity but confirmed her long-term ambition to start her own business. This fall, she returned to North Central to complete her degree while serving as a resident assistant in the college’s Residence Hall.
