The Zen Den: Supporting students’ mental health and well-being
Promoting mental health and well-being is essential, particularly on a college campus where life stressors can impact students’ academic success. North Central is dedicated to supporting students through the introduction of the Zen Den, a serene space on campus designed for relaxation and rejuvenation.
Discover North Central’s Zen Den
Located in the Tutoring & Testing Center, the Zen Den is a tranquil oasis available to all students. Thirty-minute appointments can be easily booked online through the student portal, Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m.— 4:30 p.m.
Zen Den Features
The Zen Den is thoughtfully designed to provide a calming environment, featuring soothing wall and window treatments and adjustable lighting levels ranging from natural sunlight to complete darkness.
Enhance your relaxation experience:
- Massage Chair: Enjoy the luxury of a massage chair equipped with heat options and various speeds for a full-body massage, including the feet.
- Breathing Bear: Utilize the Breathing Bear to practice the 4/7/8 breathing cycle, which aids in improving focus, enhancing meditation, reducing stress and anxiety, and building moment-to-moment awareness. The Breathing Bear also includes seven soothing nature sounds and seven eye-friendly colored night lights to create a safe, soothing, relaxing environment.
- Cubbies: Explore our cubbies filled with puzzles, books on mindfulness and inspiration, journals, coloring books and pencils, fidgets, cards, and more.
- Yoga Mat: A yoga mat is available for stretching out, accompanied by a poster illustrating various yoga poses to help you relax.
- Sound Machine: Enjoy calming white noise, including ocean sounds, rain, thunderstorms, and night sounds.
- Special Lighting: Experience light therapy to combat our long Michigan winters.
