Phlebotomy Technician

• Three weeks of online classes
• In-person skills testing
• One-week, in-person externship

Phlebotomy technicians perform one of the most widely needed duties in healthcare settings: drawing blood from patients. Fully certified phlebotomy technicians work in a variety of healthcare settings, including hospitals, diagnostic labs, nursing homes and dialysis centers. Students will take the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) certification exam in person on North Central's Petoskey campus.

Electronic Health Records Specialist

• 8-week* online program
• Potential externship opportunity
• Assistance with job placement

Learn the skills required to become a Certified Electronic Health Records Specialist (CEHRS) through the National Healthcareers Association (NHA). Course topics include charting, HIPAA compliance, electronic health record management, insurance and billing.

Certified Pharmacy Technician

• 400 hours of online training
• 100-hour optional externship with a local pharmacy

Gain the skills and hands-on training necessary to assist pharmacists in processing and filling prescriptions at retail pharmacies. After completing online classes, students will apply for an externship at a local pharmacy before graduating from the program. Students will also prepare to sit for the Certification of Pharmacy Technicians (ExCPT).

Carpentry Level 1

This 14 week program includes:

• 70 hours of in-person instruction
• Evening and weekend classes
• Assistance with grant opportunities to cover tuition
• Assistance with job placement

This program prepares students for entry-level opportunities in residential and commercial carpentry. Students will learn foundational construction skills while building practical knowledge in safety, construction math and drawings, hand and power tools, floor and wall systems, roof framing, material handling, employability skills, and jobsite expectations. Instruction includes classroom learning, hands-on labs, and applied skill development aligned with NCCER/GMCA curriculum. Offered in partnership with Birchwood Construction.

HVACR Level 1

This 14 week program includes:

• 200 hours of in-person instruction
• 40-hour externship
• Assistance with grant opportunities to cover tuition
• Assistance with job placement

This program introduces students to the fundamentals of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration through NCCER-aligned classroom and hands-on lab instruction. Students develop foundational skills in HVACR and jobsite safety, trade math, hand and power tools, construction drawings, rigging, material handling, basic electricity, heating, cooling, air distribution, piping, soldering, brazing, and system components.

Welding and Metal Fabrication

This 14 week program includes:

• 153 hours of in-person instruction
• Required textbook
• Assistance with grant opportunities to cover tuition
• Assistance with job placement

This program prepares students for entry-level welding and fabrication work through hands-on training in NCMC’s welding classroom and lab at the Martin Jahn Technical Center. Students will develop foundational skills in welding safety, equipment setup, basic measurement and layout, welding symbols, print reading, Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW/MIG), Flux-Cored Arc Welding (FCAW), Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), oxy-fuel torch setup and cutting, grinding, fit-up, weld quality review, and basic metal fabrication.
