TO:   Members of the North Central Michigan College Community

FROM:   Dr. David Roland Finley, President, North Central Michigan College

Today we have learned that two members of our North Central Michigan College family are presumed positive for COVID-19.  Please take this pandemic very seriously and observe the Governor’s Shelter-in-Place Executive Order.

It is likely that these two individuals were exposed to the coronavirus after the College began its three-week Spring Break (after March 13).  However, we are not health professionals and do not know this for certain.  As such, I encourage you to be diligent in monitoring your health for any associated symptoms.

If you’ve not received notification in writing that you are an essential College employee, please do not enter the buildings on campus.  Your use of the Harris Sculpture Garden and our Natural Area is welcomed.

Presume that community spread of COVID-19 is occurring in Northern Michigan, and be diligent in your social interactions and hygiene habits.  Community spread means people have been infected with the virus in this area, including some who are not sure how or where they became infected.

Again, I am proud our faculty/staff for shifting to remote instructional methods and operating out of home offices to support our students in these unprecedented times.  We’ve got heart at North Central!  I am confident that we’ll pull together, make the right decisions (including social distancing at the moment), and emerge from this challenge even stronger.

Use good hygiene, good judgment, and be safe!
