One of the oldest buildings on North Central Michigan College’s campus is getting a facelift, including a new name. In recognition of making the lead gift to the college’s Building Tomorrow Together (BTT) campaign, the former Administration Classroom building will be renamed in honor of Pier C. & Renee A. Borra.

The new name, the Borra Learning Center, not only pays tribute to the lead donors, it also reflects the focus of the building’s renovation on enhancements for student learning and success in today’s technology-driven world.

This building is where nearly all North Central students attend classes at some point in their educational journey. After over 50 years, it is being renovated to include state-of-the-art classrooms, a student-centered space for academic and career advising services, and a spectacular new Student Commons to build a greater sense of community on campus.

“The Building Tomorrow Together campaign focuses on developing the facilities, curriculum and support to prepare students and the region for success in a dynamic, technology-based economy, while ensuring that Northern Michigan remains an exceptional place to live, work, learn and play,” said Dr. David Roland Finley, NCMC president. “The Borras are long standing supporters of the college. In recognition of their generous lead gift to the BTT campaign, we are pleased to honor them through the renaming of this important college building.”

“We are honored and excited to be making such a significant investment in North Central’s Building Tomorrow Together Campaign,” Pier Borra said. "This will be an opportunity to strengthen and grow a long-standing community institution that is unique to Northern Michigan and greatly enhances the quality of life for everyone.”

“Many North Central alumni go on to live and work in our community in important areas like health care, manufacturing, technology, and hospitality, to name a few,” Renee Borra said.  “An investment in the college is really an investment in the future of our region – both now and for generations to come.”

“We are incredibly grateful to the Borras for leading the way in this campaign,” said Chelsea Platte, executive director of NCMC’s Foundation. “They have done so much for the college already, and we are excited to celebrate their latest contribution in such a meaningful way.”

The Administration Classroom Building is currently under construction and the renovation is slated for completion in the summer of 2021. The building will adopt its new name, the Borra Learning Center, upon the project’s completion.
