In the first event of the 2020 season, the NCMC women’s cross country team traveled to Hanson Hills Recreational Center in Grayling to compete in the Kirtland Invitational. This year’s event saw an increase of teams and competitors from Michigan community colleges. With a small but dedicated roster, the North Central women saw immediate success, earning a 3rd place finish.
Jackson College led all teams with 12 points, followed by Kellogg Community College with 40. To claim the 3rd place position, the North Central runners edged out the Bay College team 74 to 79. Rounding out the team competition was host Kirtland College with 92 points.
Kenzie Haas and Korrie Haas were the lone competitors for the North Central team and paced out great finishes for the early start to the season. Kenzie led the team with a 7th place finish overall in a time of 23:24.8 in the women’s 5K race. Korrie added a strong 10th place finish with a 24:41.6.
The team returns to competition on Friday, October 2, when they once again travel to Hansen Hills in Grayling to compete in the Firebird Invitational. On Sunday, October 4, members of the North Central Michigan College Cross Country team will compete in the Run Michigan Cheap 5K at East Bay Park in Petoskey.
